JAMES & TAYLOR EQUIPS AQUINAS COLLEGE FOR NEW TERM WITH COMPLETION OF NEW BUILDING
May 2010Students at the Aquinas sixth-form college in Stockport will be fully equipped to achieve straight As next term when the new college building opens in September. Award-winning cladding specialist James & Taylor, worked in partnership with architects Broadway Maylan. The new building concept has been designed with a modern aesthetic, utilising James & Taylor's Senses Aluminium tiles with varying degrees of reflectivity to create a shimmering, high-tech finish. The Senses Aluminium tiles have been used to great effect for previous prestigious projects including MediaCityUK in Manchester and Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant in London’s Canary Wharf.
|The new £40m building has sustainability at its core and is an inspirational example of how the theory of responsible building can be put into practice. Rainwater recycling, natural lighting and a ventilation system that reduces the need for conventional space heating are all integral to the design and construction. The new, multi-functional building will contain classrooms, laboratories, a new theatre and chapel in addition to staff offices and study areas.|
|Commenting on the completion of the new building, Andrew Barstow, Northern Regional Manager of James & Taylor said, “From initial concept through to execution we have sought to utilise the Senses tiles so that their unique qualities are highlighted in all aspects of the design.”
Dr Ambrose Smith, Principal of the college said, “This new building is the realisation of a long-held ambition to enhance the facilities and working environment for our staff and students.
