The new Hebburn Community Hub project will form the central part of a local regeneration programme and houses a 6 lane 25m swimming pool, library, sports hall, gym and council services. In collaboration with Faulkner Browns Architects, James & Taylor have designed an elegant yet robust façade that helps the design of the elevations respond to the building orientation.
The building is predominately clad in 1800m2 of Cor-Ten steel in a mix of eyetech expanded mesh and 4m high large format solid cassette panels. Cor-Ten is a self-finishing weathering steel alloy chosen for its rustic and honest appearance and will handsomely age and evolve through burnt orange tones to deep purples and autumn browns.
850m2 of clear anodised eyetech expanded aluminium mesh cladding has also been selected to break up the massing of the project and provide solar shading to the swimming pool area.
The project is due for completion in September 2014
